This paper was written in collaboration with my colleague, Jason D'Cruz. The distinction between autographic and allographic works makes a lot of sense, we think, and we try to give it a clear formulation and put it to work.
John Zeimbekis wrote a critical reply to this paper, which led Jason and me to write Preserving the autographic/allographic distinction as a counter-reply.
The short answer to our title question is yes, but of course there are complications along the way.
