Over at Crooked Timber<\/a>, Harry Brighouse exhorts readers to write philosophical clerihews.<\/p>\n

I was unfamiliar with the form, but it’s not complicated. A clerihew <\/em>is a four-line poem about some person or other with an AABB rhyming pattern. The sort of thing Ogden Nash would have written if he’d been less pithy.<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

I contributed a couple, and I shamelessly cut and paste them here.<\/p>\n

The Scotsman Thomas Reid
\nhad a commonsensical creed,
\na fondness for calico cats,
\nand questionable taste in hats.<\/p>\n

The mustachioed John Dewey
\nmight have gone all kablam and kablooey
\nif he had not understood inquiry
\nin a way that avoided such injury.<\/p>\n
